The Abrolhos Islands

We sailed in company with "Mika", "Elevation", "Capers", "Zofia", and "Scaramouch" from Port Denison to Guano Jetty. Who ever said the “when there is more than one yacht heading in the same direction, it is always a race” could not have been more correct. Boys will be boys!! We had a great time at Guano Jetty while getting into the swing of being in an anchorage together, rather than a Marina.
We then set sail (raced) to Morley Island where met up with George and Ian on “Shadow”. Most stayed a few nights and others like ourselves and “Elevation” moved onto White Bank. The wind came up that night and all the mooring were taken. Along with a few others we dragged anchor and had an interesting few hours keeping “Catcha Star” off the reef. The next mornings radio sced was full of war stories, what not to do in future and what nearly happened too!!!
Also at anchor when we arrived at White Bank was “Jacana” and “Yo”. We spent a lovely afternoon onboard “Jacana” with Lee and Soren, it was so nice to see them like that before we continued on.
We then cruised into turtle Bay, as we passed Rat Island we noticed “Shadow” and “Comet” at anchor. After anchoring in Turtle Bay we heard the “Flying Angel” being called, Ian had fallen and cut his knee quite badly. Later we heard he had been flown into Geraldton hospital for some stitches, was back on “Shadow” and was okay. The “Flying Angel” service was called on once more when Anna off “Scaramouch”, had a bad Asthma attack. We found “Marco Polo” in Turtle Bay and as always Bob was Mr hospitality and Entertainer. Great stuff Bob!!! It was really hard to leave Turtle Bay knowing we would not see our cruising friends for at least a year, maybe longer?

Sailing the Abrolhos Island with our friends was if nothing else, one big party. I think this our photos and this extract from Grey Douglas' report to 'higher authority' on adequacy of 2010 pretty much sums the passage up. While we were very sad to say goodbye, leaving Turtle Bay was the beginning of our big adventure.
