Port Denison on "Catcha Star"

Some say we stayed a long time in Port Denison, perhaps we did but the fish and chips from the local pub were exceptional. We had originally planned to stay only three nights, however it does pay to be flexible when cruising.
We walked into Dongara from the port on Tuesday 27th April, it’s only about 2km. Looking for some special stainless steel nuts and bolts we walked into the BP service station displaying a hardware sign. The lady took us out into a back shed and suggested we would find what we needed in there. Ten minutes later and covered in dust we immerged with six nuts and bolts, just what we needed. That place puts Bunnings to shame! While walking the main street of Dongara, we heard a voice yell “Cathy – Cathy”. It was “Grey Douglas”, Doug and Harry were having breakfast at the Coffee Tree and saw us walk passed. We shared a taxi back to the port and arranged to have dinner together at the pub.
From there it just snowballed, “Sadiqui Rae” arrived, then “Marco Polo”. Having returned from a sundowner at the pub one evening we stowed the dinghy on the davits and retired for the night. The next morning we saw “Sadiqui Rae” pulling in, so we jumped in the dinghy to assist them with a mooring. The new 15HP would not start! We called the dealer who was in China at the time, he arranged for his partner to deliver parts to Jill and Paul on “Elevation” who were in Mindarie Marina. So we stayed in Port Denison until “Elevation” arrived. Having received the parts and while still trying to get the outboard to spark, we heard the friends Mike and Karen on “MiKa” had left Jurian Bay and were on their way to Port Denison. We welcomed “MiKa” “Zofia”, “Capers” and “Scaramouche” into Port Denison and had a memorable afternoon with everyone watching the Dockers slaughter the Eagles at the hotel.
Having had almost enough of the Southerly Hotels fish and chips, had many BBQ’s and a bundle of sundowners, we left Port Denison Wednesday 5th May.
