On our way to Dampier

While our passage from Serrurier Island to Dampier was not much fun, we had a ball in this area. Originally we set sail for the Montebellos, however head winds and over four metre swells forced us to seek refuge inside Weld Island. We took the inside passage after a quiet night at Weld and after trying to find a safe anchorage off Sholl and then Stewart Islands, we headed for shelter behind Mount Preston. As we arrived it became apparent that the mountain had a big chunk missing, and was useless as a shelter so we moved again and found a good anchorage between Preston Spit and Carey Island.

A few days later we found out that it was my best mate Punny that was responsible for the missing mountain, he works for a drilling and blasting company and that was some of his handy-work.

Catching up with many friends in this area was great fun, we had many BBQ’s with friends from Fremantle and friends that are local to the area.

Fish and chips at Point Samson, catching up with Big John at Sandy’s birthday and the many sessions at Dampier Boating and Sailing Club were all great.
